GWS Giants mid-fielder star forward Jacob Hopper who played a leading role in the Giants’ stunning upset win over the Sydney Swans scored nine votes from the AFL Coaches Award to move into outright second place in the Carey Bunton Medal.
Hopper, who was recruited to the Giants from Leeton-Whitton in the Riverina Football League joined the club in 2016.
Other NSW players to poll votes from the AFL coaches in round 5 were Lachie Schultz (Moama), Isaac Smith (Cootamundra) and Todd Marshall (Deniliquin).
Broken Hill’s Taylor Walker still leads the award with 28 votes.
