The History Society celebrated another Christmas at the Mapgie Sports Club, Croydon Park.
The usuals were there and a few more helped swell the numbers. Santa made a discreet call where he provided every attendee with an unusual gift.
In the morning of the event talks were held with the Society’s programmer, Ryan Vitorsiks, who explained the developments with image tagging and expanded on his work with the Timeline.
He has now arranged for all the team photographs with names that appear on our site, to have each player’s name in the respective images to be tagged to that pic so that any search for the person will redeem the photograph. There are hundreds of these both on the site and to be added.
The other Timeline feature is especially exciting.
It will be loaded onto our site and broken up into various categories. There will be a main timeline for major events and others including grounds, persons, clubs, leagues, events, major games etc. This means that you will be able to choose what subject you want then slide your cursor across the ‘years’ which will bring up information about various aspects of Australian Football in NSW.
Ryan is also working on a special aspect with the Timeline which will enable people who are remote from the organisers and Society officials to add to and amend items which appear in the Timeline. This should be available in the New Year and we are looking for someone who might like to manage our Timeline. Let us know if you are interested.
You can get a glimpse of our first timeline working by opening the ‘ARCHIVES’ tab on the navigation bar and selecting ‘persons’. If you bring a person up it should show his timeline of NSW rep matches.
More to come.
